Jason "the blog man of human kindness" passed the blog baton to me some time in October
I didn't hesitate for a second and immediately filed it away in a disused lavatory in pile of dirty
socks with a sign on the lavatory door saying beware of the leopard!
But now we are Back! Bold and Beautiful!
I don't know if I will find the time to maintain the Blog at the previous excellent standard
of "the blog man of human kindness"; But I'll be damed if I won't have a jolly good crack at it! By gum!

Sorry if you've been checking for updates to the blog, but I have no new info at the moment. Also, I have no photos from the Cork Head's birthday party. If you have nay good ones of people or the band, please send them to corkheads1@hotmail.com and I'll add them.

J October 31 Gooks and geeks, spooks and freaks ... that's just a regular night at Cork Head's, so you can imagine how scary it got at Saturday's Hallowe'en party. What's that? You can't? Then follow me dear blog reader into the abyss of the photo dungeon ... don't say we didn't warn ya! NYAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHHA.......
Of course, that Dutch fella ... what's his name? ... can't remember. Oh well, not important really ... Anyway, of course he won the fancy dress prize. Just goes to show, the Devil wins every time.
(personally, if it hadn't been for the ludicrously small and tight shirt from Workman - there must be bigger shirts in Japan somewhere - and the cheap bald head wig over done with grey spray paint, I'm sure Dr.Evil would have clinched it. I'll get you for this Arno Smets, I'll get yoouuuuuuuuu) 
Thanks to the Tengooz for rockin' up the house. Played some great music as usual (check out their website by clicking on the link under band info).

If you missed them ... shame on you !! Boogie Sue - Sparky, Rocky and Ken - got Cork Heads folks up and on their feet and dancin' 'til the wee hours. They played some excellent tunes ... from Hendrix to Elvis, and Sparky's Texan blues rockin' style never fails to impress. He's one of the most laid back, cool guitarists I've ever seen and he can really play that thing. Rocky and Ken are equally and respectively wicked on the base and drums. Very good night indeed. Can't wait til they come back again.
Kanako and Hide also celebrated their birthdays ... once again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Be sure to pencil in the Cork Head's 2nd birthday party on 11 of November also, where you'll be able to catch the fabulous Oilman Brothers band.
Don't forget the pool comp on Thursdays, and acoustic music from Nick every other Friday too.

September 11 Hi all ... some photos have been added from the 70's disco on Saturday night. Things got a bit too funky and groovy. Arno won a prize for his pimp suit ... though I feel my wig was far more spectacular, but there you go. There's never any justice in the world. Anyway, if you missed the disco this time make sure you shake your thang on the dance floor daddy-o  at the next one, and please try and find a funkier costume than 1 dutch too much.
Some of you may have noticed that there have been a few technical problems with the blog. I've been in touch with MSN about it and I hope the problems are now rectified. However, if your Explorer browser continues to freeze or crash please load the page through Firefox, or another browser, and all should be fine. Sorry if it became annoying but I've been a away in the UK for a while and couldn't get to sorting it out before now.
Events for September will be added shortly, so please check regularly and watch for TAIRA postings.

SUNDAY 6th - FAREWELL TO CHRIS ... Sadly, Chris Jones from England will be leaving Tsukuba for the UK in early August and this may be your last chance to say goodbye. Come over and have a few beers and say fare thee well. GOOD LUCK BACK IN THE UK MATE! YOU'LL BE GREATLY MISSED!
AUGUST 12th, 13th and 14th - RETURN TO JOBBY ISLAND    After what Graham did out there, I'm surprised anyone has the nerve to go back ... forget Godzilla and Nessie, he left something far more fearsome floating in the waters of Loch Jobby ... you might even spot it!. If you feel brave, however, break out the tents, sleeping bags, BBQ's and wet weather gear and prepare for and adventure of a lifetime camping out by a fantastic lake. More details to follow, or just have a word with Martin to get the info. If you go, regardless of the weather, you'll have a great time, without a doubt. NB THE PUB WILL BE CLOSED ON THESE DATES.

July 11 THE FOOTBALL'S FINISHED !!! SCORE!!!!!!!
Just a quick note to say thanks to Martin and Junko for making the birthday bash a good one ... Martin makes a bloody mean bread and butter pudding - best I've ever had. Thanks to everyone who came along and enjoyed themselves .. that was the whole point of it really ... and to Chris for carrying me through the songs. at Cork Head's. So, come in and support your favorite team!
The viewing of the later games (eg 4 am) will depend on how

For the 4am games you will be asked to buy a 2000 yen ticket.
This will include 3 free drinks to the value of 500Yen per drink (ie Beer, wine,
soft drinks, coffee etc)

THE TENGOOZ .....
.... hit Cork Head's once again last night with their furious selection of original tunes, with a few great covers thrown in. They never fail to get people dancin' and groovin' and people keep coming back for more. Tonight was JAZZ NIGHT.
The band members were sutudents of TSUKUBA University.
Their music was very nice.
We asked them for an encore!
There was also a great female guitar player among Her guitar playing was really good.
It was a wonderful night tonight too.
Good music, good drink, and good friends always gather here.

May 14 !!!HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARTIN!!!
ANOTHER GREAT NIGHT AT CORKHEAD'S!
The atmosphere was cool and laid back last night thanks to Tak and Aki's superb selection of hippyesque tunes. Everyone was relaxed and in fine spirits ... as in whisky, Vodka, gin ... You name it I reckon Martin drank it! He was pretty happy, to say the least, come the wee hours. Just for the record ... he kissed me and Mr. John first ... it was just an innocent bit of male bonding, that's all ... Just good friends enjoying each other's company ... errr ... moving swiftly on ...

 13th -  TAK AND AKI + MARTIN'S BIRTHDAY - come listen to some great ethereal live folk music and singing, and help Martin celebrate in the process.
20th - JAZZ NIGHT - get mellow with some great jazz music.

check photo album for location map - go to the pull down menu to view map and other photos/events April 16 THE OILMAN BROTHERS pulled off another fabulous gig, last night, and they never fail to get people dancing with their rockin mix of songs from the likes of ZZ Top, Hawkwind, Deep Purple and Lynyrd Skynrd. One of the best bands around, without a doubt, and they have one of the best guitarists ever ... Kotaro-san. He's real mean on the frets.
If you missed them this time MAKE SURE you get to see them at some point .. they're truly awesome.

Great food, great weather and a gathering of very nice people made for a superb afternoon. Everyone enjoyed themselves until the sun went down. The sturdy and brave continued back at Cork Head's to blow the dust off their boards and pieces and take up the challenge of Nick's Chess Clinic, where the fun and games continued way past bedtime (this will become a regular event once a month so please 'check' for dates 'mate' - bad chess pun intended).
A BIG THANKS to everyone who turned out to make the afternoon such a lot of fun, and to the cooks ... whomever you were!
Already looking forward to next year's Hanami!!

Mellow out with a few cold ones while Ariel plays acoustic
guitar and sings. This bloke has a great voice and an amazing song
list, his music creates a great atmosphere, perfect to wash away those other days that came in the week. Ariel will start around 9.00

April 05 Joel, Gavin and Ken - 'Blue Avenue' - with Guest Guitarist, Sparky (from Boogie Sue), really got the people groovin' and rockin' on Sunday evening with their electric mix of original songs, trad blues, and gems from the likes of Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and Tom Waits. Joel growled and howled his way through three great sets of tunes like a blues man from the past, driven by Gavin's superb base playing and Ken's fiery drumming. If you missed them this time, make sure you catch them next time round ...
